New York Employee's Lawyer

On April 29, 2013, attorney Steven Mitchell Sack addressed more than 100 college students at the State University of New York at New Paltz on the subject of ethics in the workplace. The two hour lecture covered a variety of important topics. Mr. Sack was invited to speak by the Student Organization for Business Ethics and Research at the university. He described how a job is like a romance and that the companies often woo applicants with promises of security, riches and fulfillment. Then, according to Mr. Sack, when the honeymoon is over, executives, employees and salespeople often are treated unfairly or illegally.

Mr. Sack discussed key areas where students themselves could experience problems one day. Such topics included: being fired right before receiving an expected financial benefit; being embroiled in a sexual harassment investigation or accusation; and not knowing how to properly negotiate a contract before accepting a job offer and being a victim of misrepresentation, among other subjects. He conducted a question and answer session and distributed free copies of his book The Employee Rights Handbook to interested students.

“Having the opportunity to teach young people entering the business world on various perils in the workplace was a dream come true” said attorney Sack. “This seminar gave me the opportunity to instruct attendees on the ethical responsibilities employers have in dealing with their employees. Do they simply follow the law or is there more that should be expected? When companies don’t follow the law, what happens?”

Mr. Sack gave a general overview of various labor and employee relations laws in the United States and the reasons those laws exist. He also addressed the gradual reduction of the power of unions and why it is so important for individuals to know their rights in these uncertain times.

On October 15, 2012, attorney Steven Sack presented a one hour seminar to 80 sales representative members of ISSA - The Worldwide Cleaning Association, in Chicago, Illinois. The topic of Mr. Sack's talk was "Guidelines, Strategies, and Tips to Protect Your Rep Agency." A summary of Mr. Sack's speech is posted herein.

On October 16, 2012, attorney Steven Sack spoke to the Long Island CVB & Sports Commission at the Hyatt Place East End in Riverhead, New York. Mr. Sack discussed current legal issues in hiring and firing. His presentation was entitled "Protecting Yourself and Your Company in Hiring, Firing, and Human Resource Issues." The presentation outline is posted herein.
