On February 11, attorney Steven Mitchell Sack “The Employee’s Lawyer,” through his affiliated law firm Mirotznik & Associates in East Meadow, New York, filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Central Islip on behalf of a woman who worked in the Hempstead Town Clerk’s office. His client is seeking unspecified damages against Mark Bonilla, the former Town Clerk, and the Town of Hempstead.
The lawsuit claims that Mr. Bonilla repeatedly made unwanted sexual advances towards the woman by making inappropriate comments and physical touching. When she refused his advances, Mr. Bonilla reassigned her to another position within the Town.
Mr. Bonilla was convicted of official misconduct in July 2013 for attempting to obtain intimate photos of the plaintiff, but was found not guilty on another count of official misconduct, coercion and attempted petty larceny. On August 7, 2013, he was removed from office. He was sentenced on October 7, 2013 to 300 hours of community service.
“This young lady courageously decided to take a stand and seek retribution for pain and suffering that she experienced, allegedly, by Mr. Bonilla and the Town of Hempstead,” Mr. Sack said. “The comments and actions he made to my client were allegedly sexual in nature, creating an intimidating and hostile work environment for her.”
